Not the most original way, but for my original paintings: I paint what I like! This can be dependant on how I feel and what inspires me at that moment. From that inspiration I might go two ways: Either, I draw something from my large store of pictures or, I make it up as I go. The size will be determined as I try to imagine what that image will look like when it’s finished.
For some types of paintings, like the little bird paintings, I’ve predetermined sizes. This creates a beautiful uniform collection. So after I select my size, I’ll usually draw a basic outline with watercolour pencils to guide me in the painting process. I like adding the needed D-rings and wire to hang canvasses at this stage too. When painting intuitive things or make a true pouring I’ll skip the drawing step and just start painting.
After I think I’m done, I’ll leave a piece on my easel, or somewhere, so I can look at it and determine if I’m truly done. If I’m happy it’s time for a lacquer layer for added protection and the fun process of adding a passepartout and frame as needed. That’s the product you’ll see for sale on my website. Ready to be placed in your home without you needing to find a frame or even to assemble any part of the art piece when you’ve got it.
Step by step I discover my personal style and grow in my abilities.
This is the next step: letting the world share in my new talent and my story.
