“Together” is one of those quick, inspired paintings. Every so often I go to a worship night near me. It’s a place where you’re free to just sit and enjoy, sing, dance, make music, or be creative if you feel like it. I usually have an idea or at least a colour in my mind when I attend. On this particular night that wasn’t any different. So I painted what had come to my mind and cleared away my stuff before the closing prayer, thinking I was done for the night… Not so. This image, and the accompanying scripture quote, came to me with such clarity that I loaded up my palette with colours again. All whites, purples and pinks…. As the people split into little groups and started praying for one another, I painted the waving lines of the soft background music and little groups of trees. Those trees where painted upside down; anyone who would turn around and look at my painting would see the end result straight away. A dreamlike depiction of a landscape with trees that symbolised the scripture we find in Mat. 18:20: “Where two or more are gathered in My Name, I will be with them”.
